Research Debrief Session and 19th Conference on Survey in Turkey in 2008

Research Debrief Session and 19th Conference on Survey in Turkey in 2008 were held on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th of March 2009 at JIAA, MECCJ.

On the first day, Dr. Felix Pirson, director of the German Archaeological Institute in Istanbul gave a presentation on "The Hellenistic Metropolis Pergamon and Its Port Elaia: Current Status of Research by the German Archaeological Institute". On the second day, Dr. Andrew Fairbairn from Queensland University reported research results on agriculture in Hittite Empire Period based on botanical remains from Kaman-Kalehöyük. Many latest results from archaeology and analytical chemistry were also presented. Each day ended on a high note.

Research Debrief Session and 20th Conference on Survey in Turkey in 2009 will be held in the end of March 2010. We look forward to welcoming you.

Construction progress at the Museum of Archaeology Kaman-Kalehöyük: Completed

Supported by financial aid from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ODA), construction of the Museum of Archaeology Kaman-Kalehöyük began on 25th April 2008 under the direction of the Turkish government, and was completed at the end of December 2008. The museum design is by Ishimoto Architectural & Engineering Firm and construction is by Kajima Corporation. In April 2009, the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology will start preparing the exhibition. It will open in summer 2009.

Anatolian Archaeological Studies Vol. XVI (2007) has been published.

Anatolian Archaeological Studies Vol. XVI (2007) has been published. In this volume, the 2006 season of excavation research at Kaman-Kalehöyük and general survey in Central Anatolia are reported on and discussed. You can purchase all volumes of Anatolian Archaeological Studies (I to XVI) during and after the conference to be held 28-29 March at the Middle Eastern Culture Center in Japan (Tokyo). Please contact Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology (tr-expa2.so-net.ne.jp). Volume XVII will be published in May 2009.



JIAA director Sachihiro Omura received the Japanese Foreign Minister's Commendations for 2008.

Dr. Omura received the Japanese Foreign Minister's Commendations for 2008 for his promotion of academic exchange through archaeology in Turkey. In the ceremony held on Friday 24th October 2008 at the official residence of the Japanese ambassador in Ankara, the certificate of commendation and a silver cup were presented by Mr. Nobuaki Tanaka, Japanese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Turkey.

23rd Kaman-Kalehöyük excavation (8/Jul.2008)

Excavation research in 2008 started on Monday 30th June. This season, sections XXXV and XXXVI were newly opened. The excavation will last for two months, until the end of August

The President of the Republic of Turkey awarded JIAA director Sachihiro Omura with the Order of Merit (11/Jun./2008)

The President of the Republic of Turkey awarded JIAA director Sachihiro Omura with the Order of Merit

The President of the Republic of Turkey, President Abdullah Gül, during his stay in Japan from 4th to 8th June 2008, awarded director Sachihiro Omura with the Order of Merit in recognition of his excavation research in Turkey and the work of Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology over 30 years. The ceremony was held on Thursday 5th June at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo.



The institute received the Yomiuri Awoniyoshi special prize (2/May/2008)

Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology received the Yomiuri Awoniyoshi special prize at the Second Yomiuri Awoniyoshi Award for Conservation of Cultural Property (organized by Yomiuri Shimbun).

At Tokyo Mosque in Yoyogi, Tokyo, a photograph exhibition “Turkey and Japan: 1890~2008” opened. The exhibition includes photographs of the excavation research at Kaman-Kalehöyük.



Construction of Museum of Archaeology Kaman-Kalehöyük

16/Nov./2008

Supported by financial aid from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ODA), construction of the Museum of Archaeology Kaman-Kalehöyük began on 25th April 2008, under the direction of the Turkish government. The work progresses favorably and is scheduled to be completed by 15th November 2008. The museum design is by Ishimoto Architectural & Engineering Firm and construction is by Kajima Corporation. Some artifacts from the Kaman region were brought to the museum, such as a lion statue dating to the Hittite Empire Period.

Supported by financial aid from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ODA), construction of the Museum of Archaeology Kaman-Kalehöyük under the direction of Turkish government started on 25th April 2008 and progresses favorably (designing by Ishimoto Architectural & Engineering Firm and construction by Kajima Corporation). It will be completed in the middle of next November. Grass was planted on the hill of the museum, and it will sprout.

The construction of the museum started on 25th April is now showing its appearance looks like a hill, or Kaman- Kalehöyük excavation site. Construction will be finished in mid-November.

Supported by financial aid from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ODA), construction of the Museum of Archaeology Kaman-Kalehöyük under the direction of Turkish government started in April 2008 (designing by Ishimoto Architectural & Engineering Firm and construction by Kajima Corporation.)

This museum is next to Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology and will mainly exhibit, manage and conserve artifacts excavated at Kaman-Kalehöyük. It will be completed in the middle of January 2009.
