Field Courses 2008

The Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology offers introductory and advanced study opportunities to students and young researchers in archaeology and relevant fields. The courses are based on the excavation at Kaman-Kalehöyük and are taught by professional researchers in various fields. In past years, courses have been held on the topics of conservation, archaeobotany, zooarchaeology, archaeological anthropology, palaeoenvironmental studies, and archaeology.

Archaeology Field Course 2008-1

The first archaeology field course in 2008 ran from Monday 21st July until Saturday 2nd August. Participants joined lectures on Anatolian archaeology and studied excavated artifacts. On Saturday 26th July, they visited Boğazköy and Alacahöyük.

Archaeology Field Course 2008-2

The second archaeology field course in 2008 ran from Monday 4th August until Saturday 16th August. Participants worked on the excavation and studied excavated artifacts. On Saturday 9th August, they visited the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations in Ankara and the site of Gordion, the ancient capital of Phrygia.

Archaeology Field Course 2008-3

The third archaeology field course in 2008 lasted from Monday 18th to Saturday 30th August. Participants joined lectures by professional researchers, worked on the excavation, and studied excavated artifacts. On Saturday 23rd August, they visited Boğazköy and Alacahöyük.

Unearthened artifacts are the closest study materials. Discussing chronological order between architectual remains. Lecture on conservation of the artifacts. Participants are required to give a presentation on their activities at every evening meeting.
